What to Wear and Bring to Conference

For any career fair, conference, or recruiting event, it is always a good idea to bring a padfolio with several copies of your resume. In the padfolio, you should find a place to put any business cards you may receive. If the padfolio does not come with a place to write notes, bring an empty sheet of paper and a pen so you can write down any contact information or notes.

MEN

Ties

Wearing a tie to the PLDT conference is always good. It’s better to be overdressed than under-dressed!

Suit/sports coat/pant

Suits should fit well on the body revealing 2-3 inches off the cuff of shirt sleeve. The suit should generally be a solid color and should match the pants.

Shirt

Long-sleeved shirts are important as well. Choosing white or light blue solid, or conservative stripes are the safest bet regardless of the rest of the outfit.

Socks

Wear long dark socks, enough so that skin is not visible when you sit down

Shoes

Leather shoes should be worn

Facial Hair

If you are not clean-shaven, make sure your hair is well groomed.

Jewelry

Wear a conservative watch.. Remove any earrings and necklaces.

Cell phones/checking time

If you are checking the time on your cell phone, just be careful you don’t look like you’re taking calls/texts while people are speaking with you

WOMEN

Pants or skirts

Women can wear professional suits or skirts. Neither should be too tight. Fabrics should be rid of any wrinkles and colors should generally be solid navy, black, gray, brown or khaki.

Skirt length and slits

Skirt should come to at least the knees while you are standing. Generally a slit to facilitate walking or stair climbing is acceptable.

Shirt and Blouses

Cotton, silk, and blends are appropriate. Velvet and shimmery fabrics suitable for parties are not appropriate for this conference.

Jewelry and accessories

Wear a conservative watch, and remove any ostentatious jewelry.

Cosmetics

Makeup should be conservative and natural looking. Nails should be clean and well groomed as you will be shaking the hands of several business professionals.

Shoes

Should be leather or fabric. Appropriate colors are black, navy, brown, tan, or taupe. Shoes should be closed toe. Heels are fine to wear as long as they are not thin strapped and have spiked heels. Make sure you can comfortably walk in your shoes.

Purse or bag

Purse/bag color should coordinate with your shoes. If you bring a purse, keep it simple; a structured bag tends to look more professional than something soft or floppy.
